We are looking for a candidate with an understanding of water distribution and wastewater collection operations. Dominion is seeking two operators. This position is open to both a senior and junior operations position and candidates will be evaluated based on their representative experience. We are a small team so you will be challenged to participate in a variety of duties required for a utility to function.
DWSD is a wholesale water & wastewater provider located in Northwest Douglas County. We are on the cutting edge of water efficiency standards in the State with a robust water supply portfolio to include advancing regional rainwater harvesting, the only pilot project in the State.
We are seeking a Distribution/Collection System Operator who can perform a wide variety of skilled activities related to operating, inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems and equipment that support the reliability and performance of our water and wastewater systems. Activities include the following:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· Performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled duties involved in the inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and servicing of distribution system equipment, components, facilities, and machinery.
· Responding to customer issues regarding water quality, flow and pressure.[EB1]
· Troubleshooting, analyzing, and correcting pressure zone irregularities.
· Performing inspections on and maintaining water tanks and chloramine booster facilities.
· Contact and coordinate with emergency response contractors in the event of water system outages/emergencies.
· Inspection, maintenance and repair of system assets.
· Coordinate with developer to collect total coliform samples for new water line installations and deliver to laboratory for analyses.
· Verbally reports emergency and water quality issues to the Field Manager and initiates proper action per procedures and follow-up procedures. Requirements include after hours on-call response.
· Attends technical and safety training meetings, courses and seminars as required.
· Other duties as assigned and delegated by the Field Manager.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Understanding of water distribution/collection systems and the equipment and procedures used in their operation.
· Working knowledge of operations and maintenance of pressure-reducing and pressure-relief valves.
· Knowledge of pump operations, efficiencies, and technology including basic knowledge of electricity, hydraulics, and pneumatics to inspect equipment and request repair and maintenance.
· Demonstrated knowledge of CDPHE drinking water and clean water regulations, sampling, and permitting requirements.
· General knowledge of development review and inspections.
· Ability to work independently with broad direction and limited supervision.
· Ability to provide technical guidance to personnel and contractors.
· Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, prioritize tasks, make independent decisions, prioritize workload with multiple shifting priorities and interruptions; follow-up, and follow-through on tasks; and meet deadlines.
· Ability to work effectively with supervisors and co-workers and deal tactfully with the public.
· Demonstrate with all interactions, a high level of quality customer service; a positive and professional demeanor; the ability to exercise sensitivity; the ability to handle stressful situations in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
· Basic computer knowledge including, but not limited to SCADA control systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
· Basic knowledge of safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment and ability to apply safety principles on all job tasks including the ability to read and interpret documents such as Safety Data Sheets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, and technical documentation.

Qualifications and/or Experience
· Willingness to obtain a Colorado Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection operator certification within one year of hire.
· Obtain certifications as eligibility allows and always keep professional certifications current.
· Ability to pass a drug screen upon employment and randomly as asked by Supervisor once employed.
· Ability to read and understand maps, construction drawings, specifications, and as-constructed documentation.
· Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license and have a reliable means of transportation.

The performance of this position includes working in water and wastewater facilities where elevated levels of noise, irritants, dust, dirt, bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air/materials and fumes are always present. There may be exposure to risks typically associated with working around water, chemicals, electricity, and other man-made and natural hazards. Field work includes exposure to all weather conditions and working in potentially hazardous environments. All necessary PPE and a clothing allowance will be provided by the District.
Dominion’s service area is generally located in Northwest Douglas County and the Distribution/Collection System Operator will be expected to respond, operate and maintain facilities in this geography. Office location is at the Chatfield Basin Water Reclamation Facility located at 11310 Caretaker Road, Littleton, Colorado 80125. The Distribution/Collection System Operator must be located such that they can respond in person to an after hours call within a maximum timeframe of 30 minutes, per the on-call operations schedule and protocol.
