Staff Engineer
SALARY RANGE: $85,000 to $105,000
JOB DESCRIPTION
Dominion Water & Sanitation District (DWSD) is growing and is looking for a dynamic Staff Engineer who is looking to take their career to the next level. This position will report directly to the Engineering Programs Manager.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong understanding of water and wastewater utilities engineering, operations and an interest in project management. We are a small team so you will be challenged to participate in a variety of duties required for a utility to function.
DWSD is a wholesale water & wastewater provider located in Northwest Douglas County. We are on the cutting edge of water efficiency standards in the State with a robust water supply portfolio to include advancing regional rainwater harvesting, the only pilot project in the State. The Staff Engineer will assist the team in planning and advancing projects for storage, wastewater treatment facilities and water treatment facilities. In addition, the Staff Engineer will support DWSD retail customers and ensure we continue to meet our stated levels of service.
As a Staff Engineer you will be involved in the following:
· Project management, including procurement and management of designers and contractors; and management of project schedules, budgets, and records for capital improvements.
· Opportunities to solve complex problems and address project related topics.
· Planning and conducting independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
· Work with system operations manager to support tank inspection and rehabilitation program, which includes inspecting water storage tanks, treatment plant basins and tanks for structural, sanitary and/or operational defects, and developing appropriate scope of work and specifications for repair and rehabilitation
· Review design consultant work for compliance with internal policies, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements on District projects.
· Maintain District rules, regulations and information required for development within the District.
· Provide technical assistance to customers and contractors.
· Coordinate with Sterling Ranch Development Company staff and designers on development reviews and progress.
· Coordinate with Operations personnel to ensure field inspections are taking place to verify sizing and materials of developer-built infrastructure. May perform site visits to verify as- builts.
· Review proposed projects in Douglas County eReferral system for impact to Dominion WSD and provide comments.
· Manage the InfoWater models of the Sterling Ranch collection and distribution systems, run scenarios and provide recommendations to support planning and operational decisions.

Qualifications
· Working knowledge of office software (MSWord, MS Project, Excel, and PowerPoint).
· Working knowledge of InfoWater or other modeling software preferred.
· Ability to manage projects, consultants and contractors.
· Ability to read and understand contract documents, drawings and specifications.
· Understanding of water and wastewater system design principles and operations.
· Ability to conduct on-site project evaluations and travel to meetings either within or outside DWSD Service Area.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability and willingness to follow-up on issues until final resolution is achieved.
· Must possess a valid Driver's license.
Education And Experience
· BS degree in civil engineering, or closely related technical field.
· Possession of a Colorado Professional Engineer license is desired.
· 5 + years experience in water/wastewater utilities, civil or environmental engineering, or a field directly related.
· Experience working directly for a municipality, water district, or consulting firm providing services to a municipality government preferred.

This job operates in a professional office environment. The successful candidate will be required to work from Dominion’s office setting located near I-25 and Arapahoe Road in Arapahoe County at least four days per week. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
The performance of this position may require exposure to construction areas which require the use of personal protective equipment including a hardhat and safety glasses. Field work related activities will take place in northwest Douglas County.
